There was welcome news last week when the federal government announced it is taking immediate action to address rorts and fraud in the NDIS by requiring registration for all platforms, providers of supported independent living (SIL), and support coordinators.
HACSU members have been leading the charge for a tougher approach against providers who exploit both workers and participants. For years, we have criticised the previous coalition government's lax approach to regulation, which has allowed providers to compromise on worker safety, pay, and training entitlements.
Workers have seen a steep decline in quality and safeguards over the years. Providers doing the right thing have been undercut by dodgy ones that prioritise cost-cutting over standards to boost their profits.
HACSU members know that only a securely employed, well-trained workforce can deliver quality disability supports. Provider registration will enable greater accountability, transparency and tracking of precious NDIS funding and service delivery practices.
