Public sector nurses bargaining update #4

Nursing

Yesterday, on International Nurses Day, we held our fourth bargaining meeting to progress negotiations for a replacement Nurses and Midwives Agreement.

This meeting was largely taken up by claims from another union. Discussions largely related to issues affecting NUMs and EDONs. We were glad to see, however, that some of HACSU’s claims, such as 200% shift penalties on Sundays, are also being supported by other parties to the agreement.

Make no mistake: HACSU’s focus in this bargain is on giving the RNs, ENs and AINs who diligently staff hospitals, mental health facilities and other crucial services the cost-of-living relief that you deserve.

This is why we’re pushing for a 21% increase over three years to keep pace with wage outcomes from the Victorian public sector. That’s also why we’re pushing for subsidised parking so that you’re not spending hand over fist just to rock up to your shift.

The government’s lead negotiator indicated that after all unions have presented their logs of claims, they will provide a preliminary response to your asks. We let her know that our members are eager to keep things moving along and that they should get their skates on to respond to us.
