Standing Together on Superannuation

Emergency response is a physical job

Tasmanian firefighters and paramedics often retire when they can no longer give 100% to protect their community. This is before they can financially afford to retire.

Most paramedics and firefighter retire between the ages of 55 and 60. The highly specialised skills makes it difficult to find other work, and this is on top of the usual difficulty in finding work when you are over the age of 60.

Overall, the average paramedic or firefighter will run out of superannuation 15 to 22 years earlier than other comparable workers.

This is why we need a new national minimum rate of superannuation for paramedics and firefighters.

Please sign our petition by clicking on the following link (opens up in a new tab) to call on the government to deliver a national rate of superannuation for paramedics and firefighters to provide equal financial security in retirement.

We'd also encourage you to download the flyer and share it with your friends, family, and co-workers. Every little bit counts, especially for our front line emergency response heroes.

You can also check out this amazing vodcast where we interview Jan, a paramedic, and Toby, a firefighter, where they talk about the importance of such an initiative.

Share this video on all your socials, and let's all do our bit to help out a workforce that does so much to keep us all safe.
