Cuts referred to the regulator, spread the word.

Southern Cross Care’s decision to cut 150 hours from the kitchen has gone down like a lead balloon.

They’ve refused to answer simple questions like how staff and residents will be impacted and where the work will go when the kitchen is cut almost in half.

They’ve given us no choice but to go to the aged care regulator ACQSC to seek their intervention, which we didn’t do lightly, but SCC seem intent on burying their head in the sand and pretending it isn’t an issue.

They clearly haven’t learnt from the royal commission hearings where management was put on the stand to explain how previous cuts to staff hours could ever be justified.

We’ve been talking to the media about it, but the regulator is more likely to step in when the community gets involved so we need your help to spread the word.

If you know any members of the community who'd be willing to write to the Advocate about the cuts send them this letters to the editor link.

The more community members who speak out in support of the aged care workers, the more likely we can turn the table and protect the residents and hard workers at the facility.
