it's unacceptable to have consistent mistakes in your pay

We wrote to Neal recently and told him that employees of NWSS who work out of the Devonport area are becoming frustrated with the consistent mistakes with their pay.

Not only are pays regularly incorrect, but when a pay error is reported, employees are told they will have to wait until the next pay run to receive the money they have just worked for.

We told Neal that as most people live pay to pay, it is unacceptable to make a worker wait for payment when a pay error occurs through no fault of the workers.

Neal has since written back saying:

In the scheme of our 250 employees, pay mistakes are rare and when they happen it is usually around those very difficult COVID staff depletion times.

We respond immediately to any queries and never hold over something that is a mistake of ours until the next pay without permission from the employee. We would raise an immediate manual correction pay if that is their wish.

Late and inaccurate timesheets are a different matter and the sole responsibility of the employee.

So, if you find a mistake with your pay, report it right away and request an immediate manual correction as per Neal’s response. Don’t agree to wait until the next pay period.
