We contacted OneCare to talk about negotiations for the new general staff agreement in the light of yesterday’s Fair Work Commission decision to increase the minimum wage by 5.2% and Award wages by4.6%.
With the big jump from Fair Work thanks to the huge increase in the cost of living we told OneCare we were concerned their 2.5% offer couldn’t go the distance anymore. In particular, for lower classifications, the offer might leave you only a smidge above award wages.
To make matters worse, OneCare have kept their wage “offset clause” in the draft agreement, which looks to allow them to dilute any wage increase we might get through our work value claims for a 25% pay rise for all aged care employees.
That means they could subtract your OneCare pay rise from a separate Fair Work pay rise.
We remain hopeful we can resolve this “offset” issue at bargaining, but we will be waiting with bated breath when it comes to what their pay offer might be.
