Uniting AgeWell's paid break cuts

Vote NO!

We were in the Fair Work Commission with Uniting AgeWell yesterday to hash out where to from here on paid breaks and UAW confirmed they want to cut your paid breaks ASAP, so we expect a vote on the cuts in coming days.

Despite us calling for it for many months, UAW have refused to bargain for a new agreement and sort out paid breaks at the negotiating table. Instead, they want to game the system by putting forward a variation to your agreement on the sly.

UAW will have to allow an “access period” of 7 days before a vote, which is a legal requirement so you have time to read their proposal, but knowing how underhanded they’ve been so far, we expect the actual voting period to be very short.

This means it’s extremely important everyone stands together and VOTES NO.

Paid breaks protect residents, but UAW seem only to care about the money.

Voting no keeps paid breaks in your agreement. Voting no also means we can then fight to expand paid breaks – whether you get them currently or not.

If we lose this vote, everyone loses. If UAW get away with this once, it could be cuts to your penalty rates or sick leave they go after next time. We can’t let that happen.
