The latest on missing wages and breaks.

We met with UAW representatives earlier in the week to get to the bottom of the wage underpayments and ensure everyone gets what they are owed ASAP.

UAW told us that they’ve done a complete audit of their agreement and payroll and that they’ve written to affected workers and set up a hotline for queries.

We expressed that the process to date has been very frustrating for workers, and we want to see money in pockets very soon now that they’re moving on to fix it.

UAW were still cagey when it came to the total amount of wages owed to Tasmanian workers, but they should detail that once the Fair Work Ombudsman does their part this week.

We’ll be meeting with them again in a few weeks to make sure everything progresses quickly and properly with your backpay.

On paid breaks, we’ll be at the Fair Work Commission later today. The focus of today’s session is establishing a “recommendation” at the Commission. It’s a bit of a complex legal structure but basically it sets the scene for the Commission to get into the weeds of the issue and give indications about how they think it should be fixed if UAW won’t agree to keep the breaks until we bargain again.

We will be in touch more next week. If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact us through HACSUassist.
