Yesterday afternoon, the Fair Work Commission exposed that UAW’s decision to cancel the ballot resulted in 430 of your votes being deleted - this is one of the most extraordinary events ever heard of in a democratic workplace vote in Tasmania.
It shows that UAW management in their ivory tower in downtown Melbourne just don’t understand that you are passionate about keeping key entitlements and want your votes respected, not just thrown in the bin.
Although Fair Work decided the new vote will have to go ahead, that was no endorsement of what’s happened – the fact is that you can’t count votes that have disappeared into thin air.
But fortunately, because we stepped in, Fair Work have also now put in place orders to prevent a repeat of this fiasco:
Despite all of UAW’s attempts to stop us having a chat with you, we have really enjoyed talking to you and we’ve been overwhelmed by how strong, united, and determined staff are to stop this erosion of your rights. Let’s all stand together on Tuesday and vote as soon as we can. We’ve done it before, we can do it again: let’s make it unmistakably clear to UAW that NO means NO!
