It’s time to fight to keep them

We’ve been working hard in the background to stop UAW’s attempts to take away your paid breaks. Since our legal team has been spending a lot of time at the Fair Work Commission fighting against UAW’s cuts, we’ve managed to keep your meal breaks being paid for months after UAW wanted them gone.

But, after long negotiations, the disagreement has gotten to the point where you now get to have your say. This will mean voting on a variation to your agreement, in which UAW’s proposed new clause pretty much attempts to remove paid breaks, keeping them in place only for very limited circumstances.

We want to keep your paid breaks. Paid breaks protect residents, ensuring there are staff nearby when they are needed most. Unpaid breaks will see you working longer hours just to keep the same pay – that’s a pay cut in real terms at the time when we all need a pay rise just to fill up the car.

We expect UAW will put out a vote to vary your agreement and remove your paid breaks soon, but we will be putting up a fight.

It’s time to Vote NO. Voting no will keep your paid breaks and protects your residents.
