We just met with UAW management, and it wasn’t good.
We explained all of your very reasonable claims for your new agreement and impressed upon UAW how much you need a pay rise and improvements to your working conditions – but UAW were disrespectful at best.
It’s pretty clear from how they behaved that they’re not serious about genuinely trying to negotiate a better deal for you. They seem more interested in trying to rush a bad agreement through.
UAW said they won’t back down from trying to take your paid meal breaks off you again. They also refused to reconsider their insulting wage offer or give any thought to most of your claims.
HACSU explained in detail that you cannot afford to lose any conditions – and in fact, we need improvements in pay and conditions to recruit and retain staff. We made it clear that with rent, mortgages, groceries, petrol, and electricity going through the roof, their offer of just 1.5% in October is totally unacceptable.
They’ve agreed to meet again on Monday 21 November – but after this display, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them try to put a dodgy agreement out to a ballot within a few weeks and try to trick staff into voting for it.
Within the last year, you’ve already voted to stop them taking your conditions away twice. We know you can do it again.
We’ll update you after the next meeting, but in the meantime please get in touch if you have any questions – just speak to your workplace representative or call HACSUassist on 1300 880 032.
