Court action on hold as bargaining kicks off.

At the eleventh hour, UAW confirmed that they have abandoned plans to illegally buy out your paid meal break entitlements. We’ve also had confirmation that you will continue to accrue leave entitlements on paid meal breaks despite them being reflected as an allowance on your payslips.

Because UAW are paying the entitlement correctly, though communicating this in a strange way, we won’t file a court application at this time. While we have agreed to hold on court action, we have an application prepared if UAW attempt to make any further changes.

Because members have stood strong, taken action and kept united, UAW have now agreed to bargain to resolve the dispute about paid meal breaks. You’ve made it clear to UAW that they can’t take away your entitlements. While we remain steadfast about your entitlement to paid meal breaks, bargaining will put the power in your hands to make claims, take action and refuse any proposal that undermines your conditions.

We’ll be visiting worksites in the coming weeks to talk about our bargaining claims. If you want to get more involved with bargaining, now is the time to let us know!
