Roster restructure incoming!

Members might have heard that UAW are proposing to make big changes to the rosters for clinical and care staff in residential services across the state.

There are a lot of changes they're looking to make, but the big ones come from a new roster, with afternoon shift getting shorter and night shift longer. What does it mean for workers? Well in some instances it might be as simple as an updated start or finish time, but for the full detail read the change impact statement here.

UAW have flagged that some people working afternoon and night shifts may see changes to hours, days or even permanent hours.

When's this all due to happen? UAW has proposed 30 November but, given Christmas is coming and the need for 4 weeks’ notice for roster changes, that only gives a week and a bit for all the changes to work through. We’ve said that isn’t enough given how some members may be impacted and have called for it to be implemented in January 2021 – that way staff can have time to work through the changes and how they'll impact life outside of work or even another job.

We'll be out and about on-site to hear members' feedback soon but, until then, anyone with concerns should let us know.

In the meantime, remember, if you’ve got an agreed pattern of work (the days and hours you work) then your consent to make changes is key. If you are asked to make a change that you're unsure about - in particular in terms of contracted permanent hours - take it away and contact us for advice first. Once you’ve consented to a change you can’t take it back.
