UAW decide to ignore the law

So we're taking them to court.

You might have received an astonishing letter this week from UAW.

The letter was very confusingly worded, but in short, UAW seems to say:

  • We couldn’t “buy out” paid meal breaks unless there was a Yes vote to remove them
  • There was a No vote
  • Even though there was a No vote we can do it anyway

We’ve never seen anything like this. UAW have chosen to ignore the law and the Fair Work Commission outcome and decided they can make up their own rules. This is unacceptable, and we won’t let it happen.

We’ve written to UAW telling them that if they don’t stop this ridiculous and reckless behaviour, we will have to take them to the Federal Circuit Court. We don’t do this lightly but are left with no option when they want to pretend the law doesn’t apply to them.

In the meantime, if you got one of these letters – do not sign it and keep an eye out for our next update.
