Most would be aware that some serious allegations relating to a former nurse at the LGH have been aired publicly over the last few weeks.
After an uncomfortable silence from the government, they have today announced there will be an independent investigation to examine what occurred with this matter and, most importantly, who knew what and when they knew it.
For many years we've held concerns there's been an inability or unwillingness to address seriously any complaints raised concerning structural or cultural issues across the health service. We hope that real positive change comes from this most horrible of situations and the underlying democratic principle of public servants serving the community be renewed with the vigour it deserves.
Some members will no doubt volunteer a statement or a submission and some may be asked to. We, along with our legal representatives, are here to help and support members, so make sure to get in touch if support or help is needed.
We'll also be asking THS to tell us what they’re doing over and above providing an Employee Assistance Program to help those workers who are really struggling with the fallout of this. We're sure there's far more information to come out and we know that will be extremely difficult for some to process - so please reach out for help if you think you need it.
