For the past 4 months, your union has been in dispute in the Fair Work Commission with St Giles regarding travel allowance in clause 52 of the agreement.
HACSU has maintained that employees should be paid the kilometre travel rate where they travel further to or from a bookend client than they would if they were to travel to the employer’s ‘home base’. HACSU has also maintained that staff should be paid the kilometre allowance when staff are on a broken shift.
During that dispute, the Commission effectively agreed with your union and suggested that the employer should pay the allowance in line with HACSU’s submission.
As a result of the above, we have had confirmation from St Giles that they will commence paying the allowance in the correct way. St Giles are going to undertake a remuneration audit from the time that the Agreement was approved by the Commission. Your employer will issue communication about this in the coming days.
