They've made some commitments

You may have seen that HACSU have written to SCC management twice about the serious staffing issues at Yaraandoo, and specifically about an extreme situation that occurred on Friday 28 October.
We finally met with SCC management today to talk about the situation and hear from a workplace representative who was there that day.
Whilst it was frustrating at times because of SCC management’s defensiveness and inability to accept what had occurred, we were eventually able to get some commitments from them.
We also made it clear that we do not think this can be resolved without additional hours being added to the roster, especially around assisting during mealtimes.
Here’s what they have agreed to:

  • Meeting with all the workers who were at work on 28 October to understand exactly what happened on that day and what solutions are needed
  • Holding a staff meeting to discuss staffing issues and listen to staff on what is needed
  • Regularly updating workers on the recruitment process that is currently underway to put on additional staff
  • Providing a written response to HACSU within three weeks, having already completed the above in this timeframe

HACSU encourages all SCC workers to participate in the meeting and to let SCC know that extra staff are sorely needed at Yaraandoo.

We will now ensure that SCC follow through on their commitments. We’ll update you again when we have their written response.

In the meantime, if you have any questions, please ask your HACSU workplace representative or call HACSUassist on 1300 880 032.
