We don’t think you’re willing to lose $2400 a year and do the same amount of work, but that’s what SCC expects from you by cutting your paid meal breaks.
Our negotiating team made it very clear that staff will not accept the offer as it stands and SCC need to rethink their attack on workers’ pockets, since we understand such an agreement would be voted down.
SCC’s pathetic wage offer of 1.5% increase per year for the next three years equates to 35c an hour, and there is no backpay. Now to add insult to injury, they want to take away your paid meal breaks. Though SCC said they’ll pay some staff to stay back and receive a paid meal break, they can’t have it both ways.
If an ECA who currently earns $23.38 an hour lost their paid meal break, their total loss after 1.5% pay offer would be $92 per pay, or $2399.80 per year.
These figures are based on an ECA working day shift Monday to Friday at 38 hours per week. If you work afternoons, nights, weekends or a public holiday, you would lose substantially more! It’s too much for a hard-working low paid worker to lose.
