We met with SCC management representatives again trying to get them to back down on their threat to take away your paid meal breaks, but they are refusing to listen.
We made it clear that most aged care workers only get paid slightly above the minimum wage and can't afford this cut to their take-home pay.
Their excuses for justifying this attack on your working conditions were despicable – the most absurd one being “it's for safety reasons.”

To add insult to injury they won’t move on their ridiculous 1.5% wage offer and they're also ruling out backpay that you should be getting. 1.5% a year is a pay cut in real terms compared to the increases to your cost of living such as rent, groceries etc. We cannot put up with this.
They said that after the next meeting they would be putting the agreement out to vote. We need to ramp up our campaign to make sure your colleagues vote NO to this unfair proposed agreement.
In the interim, HACSU organisers and your delegates will be out and about at all SCC sites state-wide to let workers know what SCC is trying to do to them.
