Southern Cross Care management sprung that they want to take away paid meal breaks from shift workers at Wednesday’s negotiation meeting.
Our negotiation team opposed this idea straight away and pointed out that it would leave the hard-working SCC staff worse off.
Paid meal breaks are essential. We know you can’t get away from your workplace for having meals as they claim. If this were to happen, it would be unsafe for the residents too.
SCC have breached good faith bargaining by putting this on the table at such a late stage. To make matters worse, they have indicated there may be more cuts as they said they’ll hand over their log of claims at the next meeting on 17 March.
We must work together and fight back to stop this attack on your working conditions.
SCC will give a wage offer by 12 March. Over the next few weeks, your delegates and organisers will be talking to you about this situation and what options are there to make sure that you don't lose your working conditions.
As there is now a real possibility that we’ll have a protected industrial action ballot, we need to have all your details correct to ensure that you’ll be able to vote. If you’re not sure whether your phone number and address are up to date, you can check with HACSUassist on 1300 880 032 or send through your up to date details to email@example.com
