It’s usually not too difficult a thing to find management contacts at most places, but we’ve been left a bit stumped by SCC recently.
In recent months we’ve seen multiple new facility managers, in particular in the south. We’ve been through a handful of HR managers, and there doesn’t even appear to be one at all at the moment. Finance and corporate big-wigs who used to sit around the bargaining table seem to have disappeared too.
This has caused real issues on the ground, from handing out some gift cards to coordinating the major aged care operation in the state. But more worryingly we’ve seen an especially high turnover of essential floor staff at big facilities.
SCC have treated their workforce like they are expendable, so people are voting with their feet.
There’s a way to take the power back – stand together, vote YES for protected industrial action and fight back. Safe conditions for workers mean safe conditions for residents. If SCC are not going to take this seriously, then it’s up to us to stand up for the residents!
