SCC’s CEO got back to us saying that they would now like a 6-month delay in negotiations for your agreement.
The reasons they’ve given for this are the COVID outbreaks in other states, the vaccine rollout and that they haven’t been able to resolve some outstanding issues, but we suspect the real reason is that they know staff would reject their unfair proposed agreement. So well done everyone for standing up to SCC’s despicable attempts to cut workers’ pay and conditions. You’ve already forced them to back track on cuts to your penalty rates and it’s clear that your public petition and campaigning has shown you won’t go down without a fight!
However, we also don’t think it's acceptable for them to just walk away. We don’t want the threat of cutting thousands from your pay still hanging over your heads come Christmas time. Why can’t they instead maintain your conditions and give you a decent pay rise? We want your thoughts before we get back to SCC and tell them what’s our next step, so over the coming weeks, your delegates and organisers will be talking to you and hearing your feedback.
