As a shift worker, it’s important for you to know exactly what your rights are if management want to change your roster.
Most of the time when your employer wants to make a change to your roster they must give you 7 days’ notice – an example would be if a patient cancels or changes their appointment.
There are different rules about short notice shift changes because of illness or other emergencies, but either way it’s important that you’re consulted.
If your employer wants to change your regular roster or your hours of work all together, they are required to consult with you and your union representative first – and they have to give you all the information.
This includes informing you properly about how they’re changing your roster, when it’s set to begin and giving you the chance to provide genuine feedback about how the change will affect you.
