Here’s an update on COVID-19 and where we’re at with bargaining for your new Respect Aged Care staff agreement.


After hearing from your colleagues via our survey, we’ve developed your log of claims, your wish list, for the upcoming negotiations around your new staff agreement.

Given Respect is largely in lockdown we won’t be able to sit down with you at your workplace to discuss it as planned. We’re still pushing ahead with your new agreement and need your endorsement for this log of claims we’ve put together based on your feedback so we can present it at bargaining.

We also sat down today with Nick Adams from Respect to talk about the letter we sent Respect outlining our expectations for employers and how they deal with the virus.

We talked about the current arrangements, workplace health and safety protections and also the situation with leave and COVID-19. We confirmed that if Respect directs you not to come to work for reasons above and beyond government and health policy requirements, they may, on a case by case basis, suspend you from work with full pay rather than having you access your leave. We also agreed to keep the lines of communication open to make sure your safety is paramount.
