You may have heard in the news that Southern Cross Care, the largest aged care provider in the state, are trying to attack their workforce by abolishing many specialist roles like enrolled nurses, leisure and lifestyle staff and servery staff.
SCC claim they’re increasing care hours under the federal government reforms, but in reality, they’re taking advantage of the system reform and trying to distort the care minutes by getting rid of specialist roles and making carers do non-care work.
If this change goes ahead, it will directly threaten the health and safety of residents and workers and cause significant cuts to already limited services.
HACSU, SCC residents and their families are holding community activities across the state to expose what SCC are doing.
If you can, please come to the BBQ in your region next week to support SCC workers. Feel free to bring your family and friends along!
Together we are stronger and we can demand better for aged care workers, residents and families. Hope to see you next week!
