Public sector salary packaging

Clarity around changes.

A heap of our members have been concerned since last year about salary packaging and what the governance changes to the department means for your eligibility.
 
After ongoing discussions and advice from various sources the department today advised of its position:

  • If you’re currently salary packaging and continue in your position, you won’t lose the ability to salary package.
  • If your position loses eligibility due to structural change, the person who replaces you when you leave or retire won’t be able to salary package.
  • If you apply for a different position that isn’t eligible for salary package, the entitlement won’t follow you and you will lose the ability to salary package.


We still have some issues with what applies in Tasmania and what applies in other jurisdictions, but at least we now have a clear position for workers currently subject to change proposals.
