Public sector award consolidation and agreements

What's the story?

You’re probably wondering if the government was able to do what they’d committed to and get all of the award changes registered at the industrial commission by last Friday 31 March.

The answer is no, because despite our best efforts, the sheer number of changes and volume of work required on the agreement by the government means the deadline still has not been met.

We were sceptical about the self-imposed timeline since last year and as it turned out, we were right to be sceptical. Now, we’re finalising the changes and will have a revised date to you for registration very soon – no thanks to the government.

The State Service Management Office has written to us and confirmed that no worker will be disadvantaged because of the delay.

This agreement registration being timely is important for all workers, but particularly those taking parental leave (because of the new categories of leave that have been put in the revised award). So, it’s pretty disappointing then that the government are dragging their heels on something so crucial.

We expect that agencies and managers will honour their commitment to make sure you’re not disadvantaged – and if they don’t then we’ll be forced to hold them to account.

We’re keen to actually get on with the important work with the award revision, like identifying and recognising qualifications held by Health Support Officers and our review of the whole Health Service Officer classification.

The Allied Health agreement is also yet to be registered but we do have a final draft and we’ve provided our feedback to the government. Likewise, the Radiation Therapists agreement is still unregistered and in draft form with the parties currently providing comment and input on agreed changes.

We will make sure we do whatever we can to get these new and improved terms and conditions locked in as soon as possible, so make sure you keep your eye out for more information about this.
