Job security = contracted hours.

Several casual employees at NWSS were recently given offers to move over to the permanent rate, meaning they're now able to accrue and access both personal and annual leave - HACSU has been trying to make this happen for some time so this is awesome news.

The only thing that's slightly confusing and still a little unclear is whether the average hours provided for each employee are their contracted hours.

It’s fantastic that NWSS are offering job security but there does need to be some clarity around specific contracted hours, or else members are in the same position as they were as a casual but with less pay per hour.

We’ve written to Neal to confirm whether the average hours provided to each employee are actually their contracted hours and will let members know once we hear from him.

In the meantime, don't sign anything until confirming with Neal that your average hours are essentially your contracted hours.

Remember, being permanent means having the security of knowing how many hours you'll be getting each week or fortnight so you can work out your bills and life outside of work.
