After members' feedback about the move onto the Respect Agreement we put a proposal to them and said that while it’s clear they aren’t too keen to negotiate it’s important they come to the table.
We confirmed that while staff wouldn’t get 5 personal days certificate-free, they can do a statutory declaration instead of a medical certificate for those 5 days.
We also reiterated what we said in bargaining – night shift penalty rates need to be maintained in the new agreement for existing employees.
If Respect or Fair Work decide to leave staff on the Mt St Vincent agreement, future entitlements become a bit more complex. Members could stay on the agreement but wouldn’t necessarily see the same wage increases that other Respect employees get, plus they'd miss out on improvements to the agreement or the award made over time.
