New workplace agreement.

We've been bargaining for a new workplace agreement for members for some time, but we’ve been at loggerheads over Melaleuca wanting to remove paid meal breaks.

HACSU members told us that if it went out to vote with the paid meal breaks removed, it would be a unanimous no vote, and because they stood firm on this Melaleuca has decided not to remove paid meal breaks this time around.

Congratulations on staying strong - HACSU members have locked paid meal breaks in for the life of the agreement!

This is a great outcome, but Melaleuca has said the paid meal breaks are kept on condition they get written confirmation this won't be included in future agreements and they'll need to make changes to other items that had been previously raised and agreed to.

The proposed changes include:

  • Public Holiday – double time, rather than double time and a half (for both agreements)
  • Buddy Allowance – $1.10 per hour and not $1.25 per hour (General Agreement)
  • Preceptor Allowance – $3.25 per hour and not $3.50 per hour (Nurses Agreement)
  • Compassionate and Bereavement Leave – 3 days paid for both leave types (for both agreements).

It’s a win for keeping the paid meal break this time around, but obviously there are compromises, so we'd like to hear what members think so we can pass this on to management to determine where we go to from here.
