It’s your right to refuse.

After several workers from May Shaw and Aminya raised concerns about a memo sent to them, we wrote to the employer to ask why they felt it was necessary for staff to supply their Medicare number.

Here’s May Shaw’s response:

“May Shaw has been constantly revising our COVID Preparedness Plan. The link below stipulates that in the event of an outbreak May Shaw will need to provide Medicare cards etc as part of PHU requirements. As you can imagine, if an outbreak were to occur, these things would not only increase the risk of transfer of infection but would take precious time away from the care of our residents and families.

Staff have been requested to provide this information for this purpose. Where staff have queried this requirement, directly with us, rather than with you, we have been able to further clarify that if they still object, they have the right to refuse.”
