More roster equity.

HACSU’s been working with the new NUM to try and create more equity around the roster system in Emergency, with guidelines having been created around the way the support staff roster is managed, and this has been done primarily to allow permanent part time staff to gain more hours if desired.

Rosters will come out 5 weeks before implementation and in the first week only part time staff will have the ability to pick up extra shifts. All part time support staff - Hospital Aides, Support Officers and Ward Clerks - will get an email with available shifts and these will be allocated in a first-come best-dressed arrangement, so you need to get in as early as possible to secure extra shifts.

However, if you want extra shifts on a regular and ongoing basis please approach Vicki and make your availability known and she’ll try to accommodate you as best she can. There are only a limited number of shifts available against FTE at present, especially with limited leave being taken, and with extras only becoming available on short notice through the process of backfilling.

In the second week casuals will be able to pick up any unallocated shifts. Part time and full time staff will be able to swap shifts amongst themselves from the moment the roster comes out and with any shifts still unallocated after the end of the second week. If you need to drop or change a shift for any personal or unforeseen circumstances after this you'll need to talk to your NUM David Harris who will accept or decline your request on a case-by-case basis.

Remember this is a request roster and you all have 5 requests for early, late or night shifts or for days off, so please take full advantage of this as part of the ability to create some work life balance rests in your hands with the way you utilise these requests.
