Sick leave is a right not a privilege.

We understand Sandhill's Facility Manager has put out a memo titled Staffing changes, workload conversations & morale.

Since we’ve been pushing Japara on workload issues for some time now, it’s great to see that they are going to introduce extra shifts at Sandhill and are employing extra staff to fill them, but their memo seems to suggest that staff taking sick leave is the cause of roster problems.

Remember, sick leave is a right and you should not be guilt tripped into coming into work when you’re sick.

Maybe Japara needs more casual workers to be able to fill sick leave?

We'll be contacting the Facility Manager to express our disappointment about the tone of his letter and text message, and we'll also suggest to him that this type of memo does nothing to help morale at Sandhill.

If any of your colleagues are concerned about this, now is the time to encourage them to sign up to get protected by HACSU.
