For safety purposes only

We recently wroteto your Facility Manager, Ian Adams, and asked him the following questions about the cameras in the kitchen.

  • Do the cameras record staff in the kitchen?
  • Are they live-streamed?
  • Do they have audio capabilities?

We told Ian that staff at Emmerton Park understand cameras may be needed around the home for residents’ safety but are a little unsure why they are placed in the kitchen as it is not an area residents would normally enter.

Ian has since replied:

"Cameras are around the facility for security purposes. This includes corridors around the building interior, building exterior, as well as service areas including the kitchen, maintenance sheds, loading bay etc. There is one camera in the kitchen. It is on. It does not have audio. It is not livestreamed or monitored, but is there should we need to look at any incident (as happened not that long ago when we had a fall in the kitchen that resulted in a workers compensation claim). The kitchen is a high risk area for numerous reasons; that is why we have the camera there."

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you believe that safety is not the only reason the cameras have been installed, eg if you are called into the office to discuss matters contained on the cameras about your work practices, please make sure you let us know by giving HACSUassist a call on 1300 880 032.

For more information about this or any other industrial matter, members should contact HACSUassist on 1300 880 032 or email assist@hacsu.org.au or complete our online contact form
