As you know we wrote to HR at Eliza Purton in March about weekend workload in the laundry and told her it’s unrealistic to expect 1 staff member on a weekend to do the same amount of work as 3 people are doing throughout the week. Allison Fry from HR replied to say an additional weekend morning shift would be implemented to help with the workload issues and that it would be a 2 month trial to then be reviewed.
Throughout that trial it became clear to everyone that a second person was in fact needed on a weekend, so a permanent 4-hour shift has now been in place for about three weeks. While it might not fix everything, it’s certainly a positive step towards easing the workload.
Congratulations to those union members who brought this issue forward! It proves that working together can make change for the better in your workplace.
