Are you aware that if you need to do any mandatory training related to work, your employer should give you adequate time to complete the training at work, in work time?
We’ve heard that some workers in food services at the NWRH are doing some mandatory training at home, maybe because there’s not enough time during your shift or because there are not enough computers when everyone needs them at the same time.
This should not be happening. Encouraging workers to do mandatory training off the clock is not on.
After we voiced our concern and discussed this with management, they have now offered some options for workers: you can come in on a scheduled day off with compensation to complete the training, or sub in a colleague to do your work while you’re on training.
Make sure you talk with your manager about alternative arrangements for your mandatory training and do not complete any work during home time.
