COVID-19 allowance

You’ll have to do 42 days for that!

At this morning’s meeting to finalise arrangements for a COVID-19 allowance we were told that any allowance for working at escalation level 3 will be only paid after 42 days.

We were also told there’ll be no backpay despite the work and effort you’ve put in, especially since the borders opened in December.

The proposed payments of up to $60 per shift, depending on your work and environment, and other factors in the agreement were largely agreed - but there’s no way such a long qualification period is reasonable.

It’s all simply disrespectful - an allowance that’s only paid after 42 days is one you’ll never see.

We know the additional COVID-19 management measures have amplified the pressure so many have been under for such a long time, and the sad reality is the effort and goodwill you’ve shown appears worth little more than lip service. You and the Tasmanian community deserve more, and we’ll keep fighting for a better outcome.

What’s the point of going that extra mile when there’s a refusal to recognise it, even with an allowance that only applies when things are really strained? We’ll be out to talk to you about that.
