If you’re a permanent employee, either full time or part time, when you signed your employment contract you’d have agreed with your employer on the number of contracted hours you’ll work each month, the days of the week that you'll work and your start and finish times on each of those days.
If your employer ever comes to you and tells you that you won’t be working one of the regularly rostered shifts that makes up your contracted hours and asks you to sign something saying that you agree to a reduction in hours – DO NOT DO IT!
Instead, call HACSU immediately.
You own your contracted hours of work, and it’s on your employer to find you alternative shifts that fit within your skills and abilities to make up for the lost shift hours, which may mean supporting another service user at a new location within a reasonable commuting distance.
Do not agree to any reductions or reject offers of alternative shifts until you've given us a call, because a reduction in hours also means a reduction in your annual leave, personal leave and long service leave accruals and entitlements.
