We wrote to Dee about the mask issue.

DSWs feel undervalued and discriminated against because they've been given different masks to team leaders, who were supplied with vented black masks, while they received a completely different white one.

We explained to Dee that staff already feel, at times, that team leaders are given preferential treatment and are thought of more highly than workers in the equally valuable support worker role, and we pointed out that the distinguishing difference in masks only exacerbates the situation.

Dee called and told us the reason team leaders were given different masks is because they do longer hours than those in support worker roles, and she also said the team leaders’ masks are a washable style which can be reused to conserve CRS’s mask supply.

After our conversation, Dee said she will now advise ALL staff to wear the same mask, regardless of the position they hold.
