Bargaining for new staff agreement begins.

We started negotiating for a new general staff agreement at Christian Homes Tasmania yesterday and ran management through your log of claims - your wish list for your next agreement.

In summary, CHT have agreed to:

  • Buddy allowance of $1 per hour when buddying new staff
  • Increase afternoon shift penalty to 15%
  • Increase night shift allowance to 17.5%
  • 5 days of paid family and domestic violence leave
  • 3-year agreement
  • 2.25% wage increase in 2021, 2% in 2022 and 2% in 2023

We strongly argued for pandemic, lockdown and personal leave, manageable workloads, double time for Sunday work and paid meal breaks. CHT said no to all these claims at first but then changed their minds, so they’ll review them and get back to us at the next meeting scheduled for 17 August.

We told them that one big-ticket item is an increase in the total days of personal leave, especially in the current climate and workloads.

Last, but definitely not least, the wages offer isn’t anything amazing and we’ve asked that they consider the minimum wage increase awarded by FWC and offer you whichever is greater.

We'll be visiting both Snug and Hawthorn Village on Monday, 16 August to get your thoughts and feedback so we can take them to the next meeting.

Please keep an eye out for an email closer to the time when I’ll be visiting. If you have any questions, contact HACSUassist on 1300 880 032 or assist@hacsu.org.au
