Today we met with management about changes at Orana that will impact staff.

Long story short, there'll be a change in services that will alter some staff members’ hours and, in some cases, Orana are saying staff will be stood down - this isn't good.

Management have said the staff members most affected are those who only do overnight shifts in the respite area, rather than those who work in the community.

We asked management if Orana and staff will qualify for JobKeeper payments, but unfortunately the answer was no.

We also asked if staff having their hours reduced could be redeployed to Karingal, as this had been discussed in the past, but again the answer was no, Karingal have no need for further staff at this time.

When asked what the leave arrangements would look like for those impacted, management said they are open to staff looking at using their leave and perhaps taking leave at half pay.

Management agreed there's no issue with staff seeking employment elsewhere as a result of this.

When asked how long they expect these changes to last, management said hopefully they won't be forever and they’ll review the situation regularly.

We reminded them that all reviews and any changes will require consultation with everyone individually, and we also told them there needs to be a clear end date on any agreement so you aren’t signing up to take reductions for good.

They didn’t have any paperwork available for us to look through, but we were told staff should get it through next week.

Any members affected by this who want to talk about it are encouraged to give us a call.
