We’ve been putting pressure on Bupa and Southern Cross Care (SCC) to make some important changes before the facility is sold.
While we're still waiting to hear back on some things, here's the latest:
- Because of the issues we raised, Southern Cross Care will now be issuing new contracts, so nobody should sign a contract just yet, new and improved ones should be coming soon. The deadline for returning contracts has been extended.
- Any more beneficial conditions of employment Bupa employees now have will apply not just for the life the Bupa agreement, which could be gone in months, but for as long as someone works with SCC. This is a very important change, and all contracts will have to be updated to reflect this.
- Current contracts say people can be relocated on a temporary or permanent basis to SCC facilities anywhere in Tasmania, which means Launceston or Burnie, and staff have no say in it - but new contracts will now limit any moves to Hobart only, so members can plan their lives knowing they won’t have to pick up and move.
SCC also say they're going to make changes to hours of work in the new contracts, which will hopefully include rostered and contracted hours. If anyone is still unsure what their contracted hours are, now is a good time to get the paperwork together.
Congratulations to HACSU members for their great work sticking together!
These are big wins and have only been achieved by union members standing together.
