We wrote to Bupa management last week asking that members' contracts be updated to reflect the hours and pattern of work done over a long period of time, and we’re expecting a response by Friday.
After visiting the worksite this week it’s clear there are many inconsistencies in how people are being treated - not only when it comes to people getting their contracted/regular hours but also questions about current contracted hours and what’s on offer from Southern Cross.
While we wait for a response there are a few things to keep in mind.
It’s really important to get all paperwork together as soon as possible. This includes a copy of the most recent contract and, if you don’t have one, request it in writing. Any documentation about pattern of work such as agreed days and hours is also very important.
If anyone has received a contract from Southern Cross Care, and is concerned, DO NOT SIGN IT YET - or you could be signing away existing rights and conditions.
It’s really important that any part-time workers receive both their contract and their pattern of work (days and hours to be worked over the week). If you haven’t got that, we don’t think it’s a good idea to sign just yet.
We’re trying to get some important guarantees about pay, conditions and rosters so if you’re in doubt, don’t sign. The contracts we’ve seen are pretty limited but if you want specific advice please call us.
