With significant changes ahead of us next week, we were recently provided with a new version of the COVID-19 Response - Scenarios addressing workforce absences document.
They've been reduced from 23 to 16 specific scenarios to remove potential duplication and the details have been consolidated, but there seem to be fewer conditions where “normal pay” would be provided. This means base pay or personal leave is likely to apply if you need to be away from work because of COVID risks.
We're seeking further clarification about this document and will share the revised version when it’s available.
We also want specific information about the agencies intent for workers who work across multiple sites. There appears to be a plan to limit the movement of employees to assist in managing COVID-19 risks, but we know that would concern many workers who have multiple contracts with different work locations within the public sector or in private practice (as self-employed/contracting or working for a private-sector employer).
Due to the nature of their employment, some workers may go between various work locations on a shift-by-shift basis. Our position is that restrictions imposed by employers must take into account these normal work practices, and compensation for loss of earnings must be paid if that happens.
We are also seeking break room spaces to be bigger and better, especially for hospital workers.
