We were contacted by Regis’ representatives yesterday about significant underpayments to staff.
This seems to have been a nationwide underpayment of salary and entitlements, not just in Tasmania.
It also appears that it’s a significant sum of money – in the vicinity of$30-$40 million in total as reported in the media.
Regis has made a voluntary declaration to the Fair Work Ombudsman about these underpayments, and we presume this is to try to avoid further penalties or action from the regulator.
We are continually amazed how payroll systems are, allegedly, often responsible for underpaying workers, but never seem to have overpaid workers.
Disappointingly we don't yet know about what hasn’t been paid correctly, so we can’t tell you what the impact might be on you individually at this stage.
Given Regis is a national employer, we'll be working closely with our national office and other branches to hold Regis to account and ensure all workers are paid what they’re owed.
