Agreement vote incoming.

After much ado, the proposed staff agreement is going out to vote.
Putting aside the long and complicated history of these negotiations, the agreement is largely the same as the one that was voted up 2 years ago.
It contains several important improvements, but the vast majority of these were the improvements put forward in that previous draft agreement. It has taken a lot of pressure from HACSU members to hold Anglicare to keeping these improvements, with many threats of cuts and roster changes being bandied about over the last year.
The notable differences compared to last time are:

  • The minimum engagement entitlements have been tweaked but the 2-hour protection for non-staff initiated shifts remains
  • The maximum hours clause has also seen some change. Anglicare wouldn’t agree to the clause that was voted up last time, and they’ve instead proposed a clause that means ordinary hours must not exceed 8 a day (or 10 by agreement) or 152 over 4 weeks.

The vote should open Wednesday 2 December, so members should keep an eye out and be sure to have their say.
