Aged care workers and two-person assists

Never fly solo.

A number of workers have contacted us recently about working short, which makes it hard to get a second person to assist with two-person care.

We know that on one occasion, a staff member was asked to help a two-person assist resident alone - You should not try to do any single person care if that resident is classified as a two-person assist, under any circumstances.

If anything goes wrong, your employer will wash their hands of the situation and put the blame squarely on you.

We know you want to give prompt care to your residents even when you’re working short-staffed, but we don’t want you to be in the line of fire if it goes wrong.

For more information about this or any other industrial matter, members should contact HACSUassist on 1300 880 032 or email assist@hacsu.org.au or complete our online contact form
